Welcome to Department of Microbiology
- The under graduate department of Microbiology was established in 1983.
- The Post graduate course in Microbiology was established in 2005-06.
- Combination with Bio-technology at under graduate level was started in 2005-06.
- Laboratory has got the recognition as Central Research Laboratory by RTMNU in 2012.
- Department has been awarded as BEST MICROBIOLOGY DEPARTMENT AWARD in Maharashtra by MBSI in 2023.
This is one of the highly rated departments under College having potential for Excellence Scheme by the University Grants Commission, N. Delhi, and (UGC). The Department provides quality education, through both teaching and research, necessary to meet the needs of this growing field. The Department of Microbiology has an excellent track record of academic excellence, and a good considerable student progression to PG studies and an exceptional list of achievements in curricular and co-curricular activities

COURSE INTRODUCTION
Microbiology is a discipline of science that examines microbes. Microbes are small organisms that require microscopic tools for visualization, encompass bacteria, viruses, algae, fungi and protozoa. This discipline includes fundamental studies on the biochemistry, physiology, cell biology, ecology, evolution and clinical aspects of microorganisms, including the host response (immune responses) to these agents and applied studies on Soil Microbiology, Water and Sewage Microbiology, Food and Industrial Microbiology.
The UG Curriculum designed by RTM Nagpur University is applicable to us since the college is affiliated to RTMNU. This curriculum gradually exposes the student to all the above areas of Microbiology in a graded manner, over the three years in six semesters. The curriculum also ensures that the student develops the right laboratory skills such that he/she is job ready. The PG curriculum designed by RTM Nagpur University extensively deals with all the branches with certain topics like Cell biology, Biochemistry, Genetics dealt at a considerable depth. The Project and Dissertation work in the curriculum introduce the students to several aspects like experimental planning and develops aptitude to design research problem.
