1. Two-Day Self-Paced Virtual International Symposium on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

The Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre, Science College, Nagpur, successfully organized a two-day self-paced Virtual International Symposium on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) from April 26th to April 27th, 2024. The symposium aimed to explore various aspects of intellectual property and its impact on innovation and business.

Key Speakers and Topics:

1.      Prof. Mary Wanjiru Kinoti from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, presented on "University of Nairobi, Kenya, Innovation Ecosystem" with 30 views.
2.      Dr. Payal Thaorey from RTM Nagpur University, India, discussed the "Development of Patent Law in India" with 30 views.
3.      Ms. Saziso Ndhlovu from the National University of Science and Technology, Zimbabwe, covered "Copyrights" with 57 views.

Participants and Beneficiaries:

The symposium attracted a total of 117 beneficiaries, including participants from Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and various universities across India. This diverse participation enriched the discussions and insights shared during the event.

Event Coordination and Support:

Dr. Sarang S. Dhote, Coordinator of Innovation and Incubation Centre, served as the coordinator of the symposium, ensuring smooth execution and engagement.

2.Shivaji Science College Celebrates 125th Birth Year of Late Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh with Remarkable Intellectual Property Achievements

This year marks a significant milestone for Shivaji Science College as it celebrates the 125th Birth Year of Late Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh, the esteemed founder and president of Shri Shivaji Education Society Amravati. In honor of this occasion, Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre at Shivaji Science College has paid a unique tribute to Late Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh.

During this commemorative year, Shivaji Science College proudly announces the achievement of 125 Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). These include Indian Copyrights, Kenya Copyrights, several patents filed, and numerous ideas from both faculty and students published in the Indian Patent Journal. Additionally, the college has extended its intellectual property reach beyond its own campus, securing copyrights for projects involving Tai Golwalkar Mahavidyalaya, Ramtek, St. Vincent Palloti Engineering College in Nagpur, Kamala Nehru Mahavidyalaya in Nagpur, and Sant Gadge Maharaj Mahavidyalaya in Hingna. This collaborative effort was made possible with the support of Shri Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre, Nagpur.

Dr. Sarang Dhote, the coordinator of Shri Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre, provided invaluable guidance to students and faculty members throughout the process of copyright filing, patent applications with the Indian Patent Office, and publication in the Indian Patent Journal. Under his mentorship, Shivaji Science College has become the first institution in the Vidarbha region to achieve such a remarkable number of IPRs within a single year.

Expressing his pride and congratulations, Prof. M. P. Dhore, Principal of Shivaji Science College, commended the dedication and innovation demonstrated by all students and faculty members involved in these intellectual property endeavors.

This achievement not only reflects the commitment to innovation and academic excellence at Shivaji Science College but also underscores its significant contributions to intellectual property development in the region.

 

3."How to file a Copyright in India" Hands on Training Session 2023.

The Department of Chemistry and Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre at Shivaji Science College, Nagpur, organized a comprehensive Hands-On Training Session on "How to File Copyright in India" on October 31, 2023. The primary objective of this session was to educate Postgraduate (PG) and Undergraduate (UG) students from various academic streams about the intricacies of copyright filing in India. Dr. Sarang Dhote, the in-charge of Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre, led the session and provided invaluable insights to the participants.

Introduction:

The importance of intellectual property rights, particularly copyright, has been growing steadily in India. With this in mind, the Department of Chemistry and the Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre at Shivaji Science College collaborated to organize a Hands-On Training Session focusing on the process of filing copyright in India.

Session Highlights:

The training session comprised the following key highlights:

  •     Introduction to Copyright: Dr. Sarang Dhote initiated the session by providing an in-depth introduction to copyright and its significance in the protection of creative works. He explained the various forms of creative works that can be copyrighted, including literary, artistic, musical, and software-related content.
  • Copyright Registration Procedure: Dr. Dhote guided the participants through the step-by-step process of registering a copyright in India. This included explaining the application forms, fees, and supporting documentation required for copyright registration.
  • Copyright Infringement: The session also covered the aspects of copyright infringement, outlining the legal consequences of copyright violation in India. Dr. Dhote emphasized the importance of copyright registration in protecting one's intellectual property rights.
  •      Practical Demonstration: The training session included a practical demonstration where participants had the opportunity to fill out a sample copyright application form. Dr. Dhote and his team provided one-on-one guidance to ensure a clear understanding of the registration process. 

Q&A Session:

Towards the end of the training, a question and answer session was held to address any queries or concerns from the participants. Dr. Dhote clarified doubts and provided additional insights into copyright-related matters.

Audience Feedback:

The Hands-On Training Session received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the participants. Students from various academic backgrounds expressed their appreciation for the clarity and depth of the information presented. They found the practical demonstration especially helpful in demystifying the copyright registration process.

4. Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

The Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was organized by the Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre at Shivaji Science College, Nagpur, on October 20, 2023. This informative and insightful event aimed to educate postgraduate (PG) and undergraduate (UG) students from various academic streams within the college about the significance and implications of Intellectual Property Rights.

 Event Highlights:

1.  Welcome Address:  The workshop began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Sarang Dhote, who is in charge of the Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre. Dr. Dhote provided an overview of the workshop's objectives and introduced the significance of IPR in the contemporary world.

2.  Diverse Audience:  The workshop drew a diverse audience, consisting of PG and UG students from various subjects, including Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. This diversity emphasized the universality of IPR's relevance across different fields of study.

3.  Demonstration:  Dr. Sarang Dhote, an expert in the field of IPR, conducted a comprehensive demonstration for the participants. He explained the various types of intellectual property, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. Using real-life examples, he highlighted the importance of protecting one's intellectual creations and innovations through IPR.

4.  Case Studies:  The workshop included several case studies that showcased instances where IPR played a pivotal role in protecting innovations and creations. These case studies enabled students to understand the practical implications and challenges associated with IPR.

5. College-level Students Innovation Challenge - Under the Scheme of Maharashtra Student Innovation Challenge 2023

The College-level Students Innovation Challenge 2023, held under the scheme of the Maharashtra Student Innovation Challenge 2023, was a remarkable event organized by the Shivaji Science Innovation Incubation Centre on October 10, 2023. The competition provided a platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas and solutions to a panel of esteemed judges, with the aim of fostering creativity and problem-solving skills among young talents.

Participants and Judges:

The competition saw enthusiastic participation, with a total of 42 innovative ideas submitted by registered students from various disciplines. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Shahin K. Sayyad, Assistant Professor of the Department of Physics at Shri Shivaji Science College, Nagpur, who served as one of the judges. Dr. Sarang Dhote, the Incharge of the Innovation and Incubation Center, & Coordinator of Maharashtra Student Innovation Challenge 2023 was also actively involved in evaluating all presentations.

Selection Process:

To ensure fair assessment, all submitted ideas were evaluated as per the valuation scheme of the Maharashtra Student Innovation Challenge 2023. The judges considered various factors such as creativity, feasibility, potential impact, and presentation skills in their assessment. After a rigorous evaluation process, two ideas were selected to advance to the district-level competition. These ideas not only demonstrated exceptional innovation but also had the potential for practical implementation and positive societal impact.

Winning Ideas:

The following two ideas were selected to represent our college at the district-level competition:

Green Wave Shield - 1 - Presented by Ms. Avanti Pusdekar, this idea represents a pioneering effort in the development of an antiradiation cover derived from biological thin film sourced from nature's waste. By combining sustainable materials and innovative technology, this initiative addresses the pressing issue of electromagnetic radiation exposure while contributing to a greener, more environmentally conscious future. 49.3 marks secured out of 50.

Eco Pen Harnessing Microbial PHAs for Greener writing Tool 2 - Presented by Soumya Sunil Yadav, the idea presents an innovative and environmentally conscious approach to address a pressing global issue: waste management.  This project explores a sustainable solution by converting microbial PHA polymer into biodegradable pen.42.5 marks secured out of 50.

  Conclusion:

The College-level Students Innovation Challenge 2023, conducted as part of the Maharashtra Student Innovation Challenge 2023, was a significant success. It provided a platform for students to showcase their innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities. The participation of Dr. Shahin K. Sayyad and Dr. Sarang Dhote as judges added credibility to the competition and ensured fair evaluation.

The two winning ideas chosen to represent our college at the district level have great potential, and we look forward to their progress in the subsequent rounds of the competition. This event exemplifies our commitment to promoting innovation and entrepreneurship among our students, and we anticipate even more ground-breaking ideas in the future.

      

6. World Entrepreneurship Day 2023.

Developing an innovation mindset can help you to become more creative, curious, and confident in your abilities to generate and implement novel ideas. Therefore, start to prepare innovative mindset. Innovative mindset helps us to develop our skills and makes us more creative. Innovation is not only about creating new products or services, but also about finding new ways to solve problems and adapt them to changing environments said by the Mr. Dheeraj Bhagat on “World entrepreneurship day” which was celebrated by the Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre at the Science College Congress Nagar Nagpur. The program was chaired by the in-charge Principal of Shivaji Science College Prof R N Deshmukh.

Later, he said Startups come with high risk as failure is very possible, but they can also be unique places to work with great benefits, a focus on innovation, and great opportunities to learn. A mentor is a person who can support, advise, and guide you. They typically take the time to get to know you and the challenges you're facing and then use it in your life. The entrepreneurial vision is defined by exploration and risk-taking, and it is an essential component of a nation’s ability to succeed in an ever-changing and more competitive global marketplace.

Your mindset is the foundation of everything you do and achieve both successes and failures. We’re diving deep into two mindsets, Growth and Fixed. In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work on the other hand in a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits.so you should practice for growth mindset spoke on the occasion of guiding the students of the Shivaji science college.

Later, he said start creating your network. networking requires initiative. You must try to meet people and then establish and maintain those relationships. Networking is not a one-and-done deal where you meet a contact and then speak with them only when you need something. Therefore, Innovative mindset, continuous learning, meeting people of various skills will give you the prospects in your career.

Convener of Innovation and Incubation Center Dr S S Dhote, Convener of Alumni Association Dr R D Urkude, Dr J K Gunjate were present during the occasion. Dr P. D. Deshmukh steered a program and Dr V K Kinhikar presented a vote of thanks. All the professor, teaching faculties along with the students of the UG and PG were present during the program.

   

7. Talking Tree @ Tooro Botanical Garden Uganda. 

Sept. 2023 Tooro Botanical Garden (TBG) in Uganda has recently achieved a significant milestone with the successful development and installation of the innovative Talking Tree app. This remarkable achievement was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Dr. Sarang Dhote, who spearheaded the app's development, and the training of local students in the art of creating such innovative applications.

8.  Innovation Breakthrough at National University of Science and Technology Zimbabwe: Talking Tree Unveiled!

Even the trees at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) campus in Zimbabwe are now talking. Now recently the smartphone application "Talking Tree NUST" was unveiled at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) campus.

This initiative is the result of joint efforts of Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre, Department of Chemistry of NUST Zimbabwe and Department of Forest Resources and Wildlife Management at NUST. A team consisting of dedicated students and guided by experts has been working diligently on this project for the past few months. This application, which scans QR codes on trees, provides visitors with valuable information directly from the trees themselves. The father of the concept of Talking Tree is Dr. Expressing his excitement, Dhote said, "The Talking Tree project is a testament to the limitless possibilities when science, innovation and nature come together."

In this collaboration Dr. Head of Department of Forest Resources and Wildlife Management at NUST. Angela Chichinye and Head of Department of Chemistry, NUST Zimbabwe, Dr. Bongani Ndhalovu Yalala was the expert. With his guidance, the "Talking Tree NUST" smartphone application is now available to students and locals at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) campus in Zimbabwe. "We are seeing for the first time that the tree gives its own information by scanning the QR code and this type of initiative has been established for the first time in my country," said Dr. Posted by Angela Chichinye. Dr. Bongani Ndhalovu said “Talking Tree NUST is an innovative initiative, and soon we will be rolling out such an initiative in many forest departments in Zimbabwe. With Dhote's help, we will install it soon."

Students from both institutions contributed as project interns combining their skills and interests to establish Talking Tree NUST. This initiative aligns NUST's innovation, sustainability and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Talking Tree NUST smartphone application will create an immersive and educational experience for visitors to the campus. This pioneering project not only showcases technological advancements at the university, but also highlights the importance of combining science, nature and education for a brighter, greener future.

1.  Launch of Kigulu Chiefdom Heritage Site Smartphone Application

Introduction:

In a landmark achievement on the occasion of World Heritage Site Celebration, a smartphone application for the Kigulu Chiefdom Heritage Site in Busoga, Uganda, was successfully developed and launched. This significant endeavor was a result of a collaborative effort between the Uganda Community Museum Association (UCOMA) and Dr. Sarang S. Dhote, Incharge of Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre.

Development Details:

Mr. K. Abraham, President of UCOMA, played a pivotal role by providing crucial insights and details for the development of the application. His extensive knowledge about the historical and cultural significance of the Kigulu Chiefdom Heritage Site enriched the app's content, ensuring an immersive and informative experience for users.

Key Features of the Application:

Interactive Heritage Map: Users can explore the heritage site through an interactive map, providing detailed information about each significant location.

Multilingual Support: The application is designed to accommodate multiple languages, enhancing accessibility for a diverse audience.

UNESCO Goals:

This project aligns seamlessly with UNESCO's goals of preserving cultural heritage and promoting access to information. The smartphone application serves as a digital gateway to the Kigulu Chiefdom Heritage Site, contributing to the global mission of safeguarding and celebrating cultural diversity.

Launch Event:

The launch event, held on April 18, 2023, was attended by local community members, stakeholders, and representatives from UCOMA and Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre. The unveiling of the application was met with enthusiasm and appreciation for the innovative approach to heritage preservation.

Students Contribution:

Students from Shri Shivaji Science College also worked on this project as project interns for the last six months. Over the last six months, they've been contributing their skills and knowledge as project interns, representing not only the excellence of Shri Shivaji Science College but also showcasing the power of global partnerships in education.

Conclusion:

The development and launch of the Kigulu Chiefdom Heritage Site Smartphone Application mark a significant step toward promoting cultural awareness and heritage conservation. This collaborative initiative demonstrates the power of technology in preserving and sharing the rich history of Busoga, Uganda.

The success of this project is a testament to the commitment of all involved parties and their dedication to advancing UNESCO's global objectives.

2.  Two Revolutionary Museum Apps, "I am Kipsigis Museum" and "Kigulu Museum," Launched on World Museum Day

Dr. Sarang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Shri Shivaji Science College, Nagpur, was thrilled to announce the launch of two innovative smartphone applications on the auspicious occasion of World Museum Day, May 18, 2018. The highly anticipated apps, "I am Kipsigis Museum" and "Kigulu Museum," revolutionized the museum experience for visitors in Kenya and Uganda, respectively

The visionary mind of Dr. Sarang brought to life the "I am Kipsigis Museum" and "Kigulu Museum" apps, both of which operated on iOS, Android, and Windows phones, ensuring accessibility to a wide range of smartphone users. Furthermore, Android users enjoyed the added benefit of being able to use the apps offline, allowing for a seamless experience even without an internet connection. Both apps were copyrighted in their respective countries in the year 2022.

The "I am Kipsigis Museum" and "Kigulu Museum" app, remarkable replicas of the acclaimed Talking Tree concept, were launched by Dr. Dhote in Feb 2020 at Daryapur College. Last year, Dhote also launched an interactive app for Central Museum Nagpur, enabling visitors to interact with artifacts through the simple act of scanning QR codes. This cutting-edge application encapsulated the captivating history, art, and science of the Kipsigis people, immersing visitors in their material heritage and offering a truly engaging and interactive museum encounter.

Located in the vibrant Kapkatet Township in Kericho District, the Kipsigis Museum was a testament to the resolute spirit and extraordinary contributions of the Kipsigis community in Kenya. By introducing the "I am Kipsigis Museum" app, local and international visitors gained unparalleled access to the rich tapestry of Kipsigis culture, making their museum visit a captivating and enlightening experience.

Mr. Philip Cheruiyot, the Kipsigis Museum Curator and collaborator in the app's development, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "The development of the 'I am Kipsigis Museum' app is a profound tribute to the exceptional endeavors of the Kipsigis men and women in their pursuit of survival in this world. This interactive app not only benefited local visitors but also provided a valuable resource for foreign tourists, enabling them to appreciate the unique heritage of the Kipsigis people."

In a similar vein, the "Kigulu Museum" app, also created by Dr. Sarang, became a trailblazer in the museum landscape of Uganda. The "Kigulu Museum" app offered a transformative experience, allowing visitors to unlock the hidden stories behind each artifact by scanning QR codes strategically placed throughout the museum.

Mr. Abraham Kitaulwa, the chairperson of the Uganda Community Museum Association and collaborator in the app's development, told us, The Kigulu Museum, situated in the historical Iganga town, proudly preserves and promotes the cultural heritage of the Basoga people, particularly the Kigulu chiefdom in the Busoga Kingdom. Housed in one of the distinguished buildings previously owned by the Chief of Kigulu, the museum provides insights into the Basoga's traditional worship practices, indigenous cuisine, medicinal knowledge, and various aspects of their culture. With the introduction of the "Kigulu Museum" app, this valuable information could now be readily shared with the younger generation, ensuring the preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage.

The inauguration of the "Kigulu Museum" app was graced by the esteemed presence of Royal Highness Rtd Col Mudoola Christopher, Weira VIII, Ngobi XXVI, the Hereditary Chief of Kigulu Chiefdom, Uganda. His attendance further underscored the significance of this technological advancement in preserving and celebrating the cultural legacy of the Basoga people.

3. Advanced Water Testing Kit Development for On-Field Analysis

Introduction:

The Chemistry Department in collaboration with the Shivaji Innovation and Incubation Centre has successfully developed an Advanced Water Testing Kit for on-field water analysis. This innovative kit allows the rapid analysis of 15 water parameters within a mere 20 minutes, marking a significant advancement in both theoretical and practical approaches to various water experiments

 Methodology:

The development process involved a multidisciplinary team of experts from the Chemistry Department and the Shivaji Innovation and Incubation Centre. The kit utilizes cutting-edge technologies to expedite on-field water testing, providing efficient and accurate results.

Key Features:

1. Rapid Analysis: The Advanced Water Testing Kit enables the analysis of 15 water parameters within a short span of 20 minutes, offering quick and reliable results for on-field applications.

The Water Testing Kit was distributed to various educational institutes affiliated with RTM Nagpur University, SGB Amravati University, and Gondwana University, and also to the Environmental Agency. This strategic dissemination aimed to extend the benefits of the project to a broader academic community and foster collaboration in the realm of water quality assessment.

Demonstration Sessions:

Dr. Sarang S. Dhote conducted comprehensive demonstration sessions for students in all institutes that acquired the Water Testing Kit. The sessions provided insights into the proper usage of the kit, interpretation of results, and an overall understanding of water quality parameters. These demonstrations played a crucial role in ensuring that the end-users could utilize the kit effectively.

Hands-on Training on World Water Day:

To commemorate World Water Day on March 25, 2023, hands-on training sessions were organized under the guidance of Dr. Yogita K. Meshram and Dr. Sarang S. Dhote. These sessions allowed students to actively engage with the Water Testing Kit, further enhancing their practical skills. The World Water Day event provided a platform for students to apply their knowledge in a meaningful and timely context.

4. Report: Development and Deployment of Advanced Water Testing Kit
