Welcome to Languages Department
The Language department of shivaji science college has been in exestence ever since its inception. There are two full time teachers teaching Compulsory English and Supplementary English at first year level. The students of BSc.-I have the option of Marathi, Hindi or Supplementary English as their second language. The assignment of teaching Hindi and Marathi has been given on contributory basis.
Language department has a language laboratory consisting of PCs, headphones and the software of language which is immensely useful to the students particularly in terms of mastering the technicalities of phonetics, phonology and grammar.
The teachers of language department play a vital role in promoting the values of Indian culture by way of arranging cultural programs. More specifically, they motivate the students to speak on the occassion of birth anniversaries and death anniversaries of stalwarts like Shivaji Maharaj, Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhashchandra Bose, V. D. Sawarkar, Lokmannya Tilak, Mahatma Phuley, Savitribai Phuley, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Dr. C. V. Raman and the like.... Such programs help the youngsters to establish their acquaintance with the National Heroes who contributed a great deal particularly in terms of social reformation. language teachers also conduct extension activities to help the students and children from different strata of society to acquire a communicative and linguistic results.
language department organizes/ arranges guest lectures, collegiate and inter-collegiate debates, elocutions and workshops which helps the students to acquire proficiency in language, speacially in English. Simillarly, eminent speakers are invited to deliver talks related to journalism, personality developemnt, job opportunities and enhancementof cultural and ethical values.
Similarly, the language department arranges every year the elocution competition and essay writing competition during Yuva Mahotsav i.e. at the time of Birth Anniversery Celebration of our founder President Dr. Punjabrao alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh.
