ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Physics was established a way back in the year 1967. It is the second large department in college with 08 sanctioned teachers for undergraduate programme B.Sc. in Physics. Presently, it is catering to the needs of undergraduate (B.Sc.), post-graduate (M.Sc.) and research students (Ph.D.). Now 07 regular faculty members along with 03 ad-hoc and 02 CHB (Clock Hour Basis) teachers are catering to the needs students of Under Graduate (B.Sc. Programme -Semester Pattern) and Post Graduate (M.Sc. Physics – Semester Pattern) along with research students. The mile stones in this journey are – (i) in the year 2011-12, the college commenced M.Sc. Physics course while (ii) in the year 2014-15 the department was recognized as Centre for Higher Learning to register research students leading to Ph.D. degree affiliated to RTM Nagpur University. During 2008 to 2018 the department was bestowed with the Innovative Programme (worth Rs 50 Lacs) – Post Graduate Diploma in Nano-Science and Nano-Technology which inducts students having completed post-graduation in Physical Science or graduation in Engineering. Moreover, since the year 2011-12 the department is running a UGC Sponsored (worth Rs 10 Lacs) add-on course under title Career Oriented Course - Mathematical Modeling Using Maple.
In the year 2004 the department was identified as a beneficiary department under the University Grants Commission’s most coveted programme College with Potential for Excellence. The faculty members are active in research and it is recognized by UGC in the form that TWO Major Research Projects and FOUR Minor Research Projects (worth Rs 28 Lacs) have been awarded to them and are successfully completed.
The department has a state-of-the-art laboratory developed for the undergraduate, postgraduate programme. Sophisticated laboratory-developed with the financial aid provided by University Grants Commission, New Delhi under various schemes viz; (i) College with Potential for Excellence, (ii) INNOVATIVE PROGRAMME, (iii) Career Oriented Course and (iv) Major/Minor Research Projects.

Supporting Add on Career Oriented Course
The college commenced Certificate Course – Mathematical Modeling using Maple funded by UGC, New Delhi under Career Oriented Course vide letter F. No. 4-165/2011 Feb 2012. (Seed Money approved 10 Lacs and Grant released Rs 9 Lacs). The course commenced from 2013-14 academic session after the syllabus was approved by RTM Nagpur University. The classroom teaching and practical (programme execution) was conducted as per the syllabus scheme approved by RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur. During SEVEN academic years from 2013-14 to 2019-20, CERTIFICATE, and DIPLOMA course was conducted to award certificate to 266 students.
Since the academic session 2018-19, we plan to reach to maximum students through this CoC in the form of Flipped e-Classroom. We have uploaded SIX Video Lectures on Maple on YouTube which the students should listen to before reporting to the Maple Laboratory for hands-on experience. Some PDF worksheets on Maple are also made available on Google Drive.
Department conducted 6 Add-on courses from 2019-2024 in which 613 UG and 42 PG students participated
