ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
In 1982, starting with 15 students and one faculty member, now Statistics department is one of the best departments in Nagpur University with about 100 students and qualified faculty. The contemporary teaching methods through various seminars, workshops, projects, quiz and problem solving competitions etc. ensure high educational standards. Our objective is to reinforce theory and practical through various statistical tools.
Course Introduction:
Statistics is widely applied in Biological, physical as well as Social sciences. During three years of the course students acquire the basic knowledge of data analysis techniques such as tests of significance, Correlation and regression analysis, Time series analysis, Statistical quality control, Operations Research , Psychological Statistics etc. The expertise in these areas offers opportunities for higher studies in the reputed Institutes like ISI, IITs and IISER. It also provides job opportunities in Central and state government offices, Defense, industries and many more.
Department Features:
Department organizes workshops on statistical software exclusively for students of the department. Commemorating the pioneering efforts and contribution of world renowned Statistician Prof. P.C.Mahalanobis for our country, department celebrates every year 29th June, National Statistics day, on his birthday, to make our students aware of the rich heritage of Statistics. Every year we carry out surveys on current burning topics to impart practical knowledge of the subject amongst students.
