Welcome to the Department of BIOTECHNOLOGY
ABOUT DEPARTMENT
Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary field that integrates Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Virology, and Plant and Animal Tissue Culture, along with Chemistry and Engineering. As a rapidly evolving and innovative science, it plays a crucial role in various aspects of life.
Our journey began in 2005-06 with the launch of the B.Sc. (Biotechnology) program, initially enrolling 80 students. Since then, we have developed an interdisciplinary program that combines Microbiology and Biotechnology, fostering collaboration and enriching the educational experience for aspiring scientists. Our experienced faculty members are passionate educators and mentors, dedicated to guiding students through their academic and research journeys. Equipped with modern laboratories and advanced technologies, our facilities provide invaluable hands-on experience. Co-curricular activities, including seminars, workshops, and conferences, further enhance the learning experience.
To prepare our students for the real world, we offer internships and cooperative education programs. Our curriculum is regularly updated to reflect the latest industry advancements, and we encourage research collaboration with faculty and industry experts. We also conduct skills development workshops to enhance essential soft skills, provide flexible elective options for personalized learning paths, and introduce entrepreneurship programs to cultivate innovation and business skills.
Our commitment to community engagement is reflected in outreach programs that raise awareness of microbiological issues and promote public health initiatives, creating a comprehensive environment for growth and discovery. Our dedicated teaching staff is committed to delivering high-quality education. Our state-of-the-art laboratories, equipped for Plant and Animal Tissue Culture, feature horizontal laminar flow hoods and other essential facilities, ensuring a robust learning environment.

COURSE INTRODUCTION
Biotechnology is a dynamic and vibrant interdisciplinary field that unites various scientific domains to unlock the potential of living systems. It merges microbiology and biochemistry to explore the intricate roles of microorganisms and the molecular mechanisms that drive biological processes. Genetics reveals the secrets of heredity and gene expression, while immunology advances therapeutic innovations. With a strong focus on environmental science, biotechnology offers sustainable solutions for ecological challenges. In pharmacology, it leads the way in developing life-saving drugs and innovative therapies. Food science ensures safety and quality through cutting-edge fermentation and preservation techniques. In the realm of public health, biotechnology addresses infectious diseases and enhances epidemiological studies. Meanwhile, bioinformatics and data analysis propel research in genetic engineering and synthetic biology. By integrating these diverse disciplines, biotechnology empowers students with the knowledge and skills to confront today’s pressing challenges in health, environment, and technology.
The UG curriculum designed by RTMNU has transitioned from a traditional three-year program with six semesters to align with the National Education Policy (NEP) for the 2024-2025 academic session, aiming to enhance the skills of newly admitted students across various dimensions. While the NEP framework applies to these students, those in their second and third years will continue with the traditional learning model. The updated UG program incorporates a blend of elective papers, vocational skill courses, and skill enhancement courses, emphasizing both theoretical knowledge and practical applications. Language studies are integrated to foster comprehensive communication skills, ensuring students can articulate their ideas effectively in diverse settings. Students will also engage in project work that reinforces learning through real-world applications, allowing them to gain valuable experience in tackling practical challenges.
