1. Invited Talk on “Advanced Sustainable Functional Nanomaterials” on 14 th February 2024.

The  Department of Chemistry SSES Amt’s Science College Congress Nagar, Nagpur has organized a Invited Talk of Dr. W.B. Gurnule, Head Department ofChemistry, Kamla Nehru Mahavidyalaya,Nagpur on, “Advanced Sustainable Functional Nanomaterials” on 14th February 2024. Hon’ble Principal Prof. M.P. Dhore was presided over the function.. Introductory remarks was given by Prof. R.U. Khope, Head Department of Chemistry. Mr. S. V. Dautpure was organizing secretary of this event. Dr. W.B. Gurnule has emphasised on the applications of nanomaterials in field of medical science, tissue engineering,aerospace etc for the benefit of mankind. Ms. Ayesha Khan, student B.Sc. Ist year compared the session and vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Anaya Sulakhe. Total 150 students were actively participated in the program from UG and PG level. This activity was conducted under the MOU signed between Kamla Nehru Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur and SSES Amaravati’s Science College, Congress Nagar, Nagpur for the Holistic development of students.

2. STUDY TOUR AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING WORKSHOP AT MGIRI, WARDHA.

The Department of Chemistry has organized one day study tour and hands-on training workshop for the students of M.Sc Chemistry on 18th October 2023 at Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Industrialization(MGIRI), Wardha. The main objective of the workshop was to provide various career opportunities for students and holistic development while taking education. As a part of experiential learning hands on activities were provided in the event. During the study tour and workshop following demonstrative session were conducted.

At the end of all activities oral and written feedback and suggestions were collected from all participants.

2. "How to file a Copyright in India" Hands on Training Session 2023.

The Department of Chemistry and Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre at Shivaji Science College, Nagpur, organized a comprehensive Hands-On Training Session on "How to File Copyright in India" on October 31, 2023. The primary objective of this session was to educate Postgraduate (PG) and Undergraduate (UG) students from various academic streams about the intricacies of copyright filing in India. Dr. Sarang Dhote, the in-charge of Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre, led the session and provided invaluable insights to the participants.

Introduction:

The importance of intellectual property rights, particularly copyright, has been growing steadily in India. With this in mind, the Department of Chemistry and the Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre at Shivaji Science College collaborated to organize a Hands-On Training Session focusing on the process of filing copyright in India.

Session Highlights:

The training session comprised the following key highlights:

·      Introduction to Copyright: Dr. Sarang Dhote initiated the session by providing an in-depth introduction to copyright and its significance in the protection of creative works. He explained the various forms of creative works that can be copyrighted, including literary, artistic, musical, and software-related content.

·     Copyright Registration Procedure: Dr. Dhote guided the participants through the step-by-step process of registering a copyright in India. This included explaining the application forms, fees, and supporting documentation required for copyright registration.

·      Copyright Infringement: The session also covered the aspects of copyright infringement, outlining the legal consequences of copyright violation in India. Dr. Dhote emphasized the importance of copyright registration in protecting one's intellectual property rights.

·       Practical Demonstration: The training session included a practical demonstration where participants had the opportunity to fill out a sample copyright application form. Dr. Dhote and his team provided one-on-one guidance to ensure a clear understanding of the registration process. 

Q&A Session:

Towards the end of the training, a question and answer session was held to address any queries or concerns from the participants. Dr. Dhote clarified doubts and provided additional insights into copyright-related matters.

Audience Feedback:

The Hands-On Training Session received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the participants. Students from various academic backgrounds expressed their appreciation for the clarity and depth of the information presented. They found the practical demonstration especially helpful in demystifying the copyright registration process.

Conclusion:

The Hands-On Training Session on "How to File Copyright in India" organized by the Department of Chemistry and Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre of Shivaji Science College, Nagpur, on October 31, 2023, was a resounding success. Dr. Sarang Dhote and his team provided valuable insights to PG and UG students from diverse streams, equipping them with a better understanding of copyright and its registration process in India. The session was not only educational but also a step towards fostering creativity and innovation within the college community.

3. Three Days Workshop on Reserach Methodology 2023. 

The Department of Chemistry at Shri Shivaji Education Society Amravati’s Science College, Nagpur organized a three-day workshop on research methodology from 20th, 25th, & 27th October 2023, in collaboration with the Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Center. The workshop aimed to provide valuable insights into various aspects of research, including Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), scientific writing, and bibliography arrangement using advanced tools like Mendleys and Zotero. The event was open to students from various departments, research scholars from different institutes, and faculty members from various departments within the same institute.

Day 1: 20th October 2023 - Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

The workshop began on 20th October 2023 with a lecture on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Dr. Sarang S. Dhote, the Head of Innovation and Incubation Centre, was the guest speaker for this session. Dr. Dhote's expertise in IPR made the lecture highly informative. He discussed the importance of IPR in research and innovation, the various types of intellectual property, and the steps involved in protecting intellectual property rights. Dr. Dhote emphasized how understanding IPR is crucial for researchers to safeguard their innovations and ideas.

Day 2: 25th October 2023 - Scientific Writing

On the second day of the workshop, 25th October 2023, Dr. Sarang Dhote delivered a lecture on the process of starting research, the importance of publication, and different types of publications. He also discussed metrics such as the H-index and G-index, which are important for evaluating the impact of research output. Dr. Dhote's presentation provided invaluable guidance to the participants on how to effectively communicate their research findings through well-structured scientific writing.

Day 3: 27th October 2023 - Hands-On Training on Bibliography Arrangement

The final day of the workshop, 27th October 2023, featured a hands-on training session on bibliography arrangement using advanced tools like Mendleys and Zotero. Dr. Sarang Dhote, who is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, led this session. Participants learned how to efficiently manage and organize citations and references in their research work. The use of tools like Zotero and Mendleys for citation management was particularly highlighted during this session. This practical training equipped the attendees with the skills to streamline their research references effectively.

Participants:

The workshop witnessed active participation from students representing different departments, research scholars from various institutes, and faculty members from diverse departments within the same institute. The diverse mix of attendees contributed to a rich exchange of ideas and experiences, enhancing the overall learning experience.

It provided valuable insights into essential aspects of research, including IPR, scientific writing, and bibliography arrangement using advanced tools. The workshop not only enriched the knowledge and skills of the participants but also fostered collaboration and learning among individuals from various academic backgrounds. 4.Celebration of World Ozone Day 2023

“ Montreal Protocol- Fixing the Ozone Layer and Reducing Climate Change

Mrs. Hema Deshpande, Regional Officer, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCP), emphasized the significance of celebration of Ozone day. In her deliberation she also discussed tropospheric ozone, usually known as bad ozone, and stratospheric ozone, also known as good ozone. The ozone in the stratosphere, ,is referred to as stratospheric ozone by absorbing the UV radiation, shields all life on Earth from the Sun's deadly UV rays. However, the principal pollutants in the atmosphere, especially nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), react to produce ozone, adequately in the troposphere. Ground-level ozone, or troposphere ozone, causes a lot of harm to human health and the environment. In her  concluding remarks she reiterated welcome step towards the protection of stratospheric ozone in Montreal Protocol..

In order to raise awareness about how essential the ozone shield is for life on earth, the department has  organized "Intercollegiate Poster competition" for  UG and PG students,51  students actively participated in the same. Prof. Punita Tiwari , Department of Botany and Prof. Kalpana Pawar ,HOD of Department of Mathematics were worked  as a judge for this competition.

 1st prize of Rs. 1000/- bagged by Ms. Avantika Somkuwar, SSES Amt’s Science College Congress Nagar, Nagpur, 2nd prize of Rs. 700/-  by Ms. Akanksha Paraye, Kamla Nehru College ,Nagpur, 3rd prize of Rs. 500/- by Ms. Ishan Bhandarkar & Ms.Palak Katalkar, Mohata Science College ,Nagpur. Consolation prize was bagged by Ms. Masum Meshram, SSES Amt’s Science College Congress Nagar, Nagpur.

In opening remarks of, Prof. R.U. Khope, Head Department of Chemistry, recommended usage of environmentally friendly cleaning products, and air conditioners without CFC refrigerants. Guest speaker was introduced by , Dr. V.R. Kinhikar. Dr. M. P. Dhore, Principal was presided over the function. In his presidential  address he  advised to discourage the use of CFC’s. The program  was conveyed by Dr. V. R. Kinhikar, Asst. Prof. Department of Chemistry  and Mr. S.V. Dautpure and other  Staff  Members and students were prominently present on this occasion. 

The session concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Ms.Ayesha (B.Sc.SemI) expressed gratefulness towards  Prof. M. P. Dhore, Principal, SSESA Science College, Nagpur  for their valuable guidance and encouragement to make the event successful & Dr. R U Khope ,Head of department of chemistry for their cooperation & continuous support. The convener of the program was Dr.V.R.Kinhikar & Co-convener was Mr. S.V.Dautpure. The program was compared by, Ms. Shabahad Khan a student of M.Sc. I st year.

Prof.P.S.Utale,Prof.Y.K.Meshram,Prof.J.K.Gunjate,Prof.R.D.Urkude, and Dr.P.N. Deshmukh graced the occasion and around 51 students were actively participated in this event.

 6. Distribution of Chem Clean Floor Cleaner

This year, on 26th July 2023, the Chemistry Department distributed Chem Clean Floor Cleaner to Ramkrushn Math in Congress Nagar. A total of 12 liters of floor cleaner, in various fragrances, was handed over to Mr. Dahnarj, the warden of the hostel at Ramkrushn Math. This quantity is sufficient to meet their cleaning needs for one year. The distribution was carried out under the Swachh Bharat Scheme, reinforcing the department's commitment to promoting hygiene and cleanliness in the community.

1. Celebration of World Water Day on 25TH March 2023

SSES Amravati's science college Congress Nagar, Nagpur , Department of Chemistry organised a guest  lecture and Inter-University hands on training on Water testing kit on the occasion of World Water Day on 25th March 2023. Principal Dr M. P. Dhore, speaker Dr Vijay Nagpurkar, Suryodaya College of Engineering and Technology Nagpur and Head department of Chemistry Dr R U Khope were present on this ocassion .

Principal Dr. M. P. Dhore enlightened the students about the importance of water day. On this occasion Dr Vijay Nagpurkar highlighted on water pollution and different methods of water purification. Dr. Yogita Meshram and Dr Sarang Dhote demonstrated advanced water testing kit in the laboratory. For this 16 students and staff members of different colleges affiliated to RTM Nagpur university, Nagpur and Gondwana University, Gadchiroli present. As a part of consutancy, Water Testing kits were distributed to different colleges. The program was conducted by Dr Priyadarshini Deshmukh and vote of thanks was given by Dr Shubhangi kene. All the staff members of department of chemistry. Dr Utale ,Dr Gunjate , Dr Urkude, Dr Reshal Deshmukh, Dr Priyadarshini Deshmukh , Dr kene  and students were present on this occasion.

2. Empower Yourself: Making Chem Clean Floor Cleaner

Chem Clean Floor Cleaner Concentrate is an innovative cleaning solution developed in the Department of Chemistry by Assistant Professor Sarang Dhote, in collaboration with the Shivaji Science Innovation and Incubation Centre. This concentrate is composed of various chemicals including Pine oil, Emulsifier, Stabilizer, Demineralised Water, Colour, and Perfume. When 1 liter of the concentrate is diluted, it produces approximately 40 liters of floor cleaner. The product is available in eight different fragrances, such as Sandalwood, Rose, Jasmine, and Lemon.  

This product represents a significant step towards promoting sustainability and environmental friendliness. The effort to distribute it to various institutions and communities underscores a commendable commitment to enhancing hygiene and cleanliness in society. During a recent training session, approximately 31 students participated, learning the process of making the floor cleaner and gaining valuable skills for self-employment.

As part of the outreach program, diluted Chem Clean Floor Cleaner is distributed free of cost to NMC school Dattatray Nagar. The Department of Chemistry plans to distribute this product to other NMC schools, hospitals, and slum areas under the Swachh Bharat Scheme. The Chem Clean Floor Cleaner is available to college staff and students at a price of 30, and the empty bottles will be refilled with the diluted floor cleaner at a discounted rate as part of the recycling and reuse scheme to reduce plastic pollution.

3. Inter-University one-day workshop on “Cosmetics and Allied Products”

Beyond only maintaining physical health, cosmetics can help us to feel better, look better and have higher self-esteem. Being significant tools for social expression, they can also aid in expressing personal styles. So on 21st March 2023, Department was organized Inter-University one day workshop on “Cosmetics and Allied Products”. A chief guest Dr. Ketki Misal had given hands on training to manufacture variety of cosmetics like hand wash, hand sanitizer, herbal hair oil shampoo and phenyl in practical sessions.

4. Vidarbha Level One Day workshop on Eco Friendly Holi Colours 

Workshop on Eco-Friendly Holi Colours was organized on 1st March, 2023, to raise awareness of adversed effects of conventional colours. Through this workshop, college students awared about to celebrate Holi in a safe, eco-friendly, and sustainable way. As a part of outreach activity this Eco-friendly colours will be supplied to various NMC schools, old age homes, and the common people in slum areas.

5. State-Level Workshop on the Topic “Beneficial Effects of Radiation Technology and Indian Nuclear Energy Programme”

One day state level workshop on topic‘Beneficial Effects of Radiation Technology and Indian Nuclear Energy Programme’ organized by  the Department under the sponsorship of  Indian Association for Radiation Protection (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre), Mumbai  as a part of centenary celebration of  RTM Nagpur University on 5th November 2022.Workshop was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. S. Murali, Secretary, IARP and  dais was shared by Dr. V. Natarajan, Sanjay Patil and Tejram Meena, Scientists of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. Introductory remarks was given by Dr. Rashmi Urkude. In presidential speech Dr. R. U. Khope, Head, the Department of Chemistry emphasized on beneficial effects of radiation for welfare of mankind.

6. CELEBRATION OF THE WORLD OZONE DAY-2022

       Department of Chemistry Shri. Shivaji Science College, Nagpur has  organized a Guest Lecture on the occasion of “World Ozone Day” on 16th September 2022.The objective was to create awareness amongst the, students, teachers and  general public etc. about phasing out of Ozone Depleting Substances in order to protect the Ozone Layer. The theme for this year is- “Montreal Protocol-Global Cooperation to protect life on Earth”.

       Dr. K. V. George, Sr. Principal Scientist and Head of Air Pollution Control Division, NEERI Nagpur was a  guest speaker , gave a very thought-provoking talk on the topic and highlighted the importance of action over the issue. He also talked about stratospheric ozone. Stratospheric ozone is the ozone found in the stratosphere, the layer of atmosphere which lies just above the troposphere. The ozone in the stratosphere protects all life on earth from the harmful UV radiation from the Sun by absorbing the UV radiation. The ozone in the troposphere, however, is generated through reactions between primary pollutants in the atmosphere, namely nitrogen oxides and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

 Department has also organized a “Slogan Writing Competition” for post graduate students of chemistry to spread awareness among the people about  how crucial the ozone shield is for the life on the earth. Thirty two students of post graduate department were actively participated in same. Prof. Punia Tiwari, from Department of Botany and  Dr.Shilpa .Gedam,from  Department of Computer Science judged the  slogan posters.

Ms. Sejal  Bulkunde, a student of M.Sc. Sem I bagged 1st prize,Ms. Sonali  Jogi, a student of M.Sc. Sem III bagged 2nd prize and Mr. Ameya Dhore  bagged consolation prize in slogan competition.

 The session started with the introduction of guest speaker  by Convener , Dr. V.R. Kinhikar. Dr. M. P. Dhore, Principal was presided over the function. In his presidential address  he advised to discourage the use of CFC’s.  Prof. R. U. Khope ,Head and Professor Department of Chemistry  advised to use environment friendly cleaning products, prohibit the use of nitrous oxide buying  air conditioning equipment which do not use CFC as a refrigerant .  The program was conveyed by  Dr. V. R. Kinhikar, Asst. Prof. Department of Chemistry. Dr. P. N. Deshmukh (Co-Convener), and other  staff  members and students were present on this occasion. Prof. P.S.Utale, Prof. Y.K. Meshram, Prof. J.K.Gunjate, Prof. R.A.  Deshmukh, Prof. R.D. Urkude , Dr.S.S.Dhote,and Dr.S.J.Kene, the staff members of our department were prominently present and around 150 students actively participated in this event.

Inter Collegiate Seminar Competition 2022

The Department of Chemistry organized an Inter-collegiate seminar competition on 1st April 2022. Total 13 students from various colleges under the R.T.M.N.U participated in this competition.

Two judges from different colleges were invited to judge seminar delivered by our student participants. On the basis of the results submitted by the jury, top 3 students were selected as winners. The first, second, and Third winner got cash prizes of 1000/-, 700/-, and 500 rupees, respectively along with certificates.

At the beginning of the Inaugural programm of seminar competition Prof. R.U. Khope, Head Dept of Chemistry, Shivaji Science College Nagpur presented the Introductory speech, President of the Seminar Competition Principal Dr. M.P. Dhore, encouraged  the students to participate in such type of events.

The Chief Guest and Judeges of Seminar Compitition, Prof. M. G. Dhonde from Mohota Science College Nagpur and Prof. S. Mondal from S.K. Porwal College, Kamptee also address the students for involment in the competition and boost their confidence.

At the end of the seminar competition, the judges declared the name of  three winners. Ist  position was bagged by Miss. Nimisha Koche of Hislop College, Nagpur. Her topic seminar was steriochemistry.

The Second place was bagged by Miss Shubhangi Amrute from Tai Golwalkat Mahavidyalaya Ramtek. Her topic of seminar was NMR, and the Third winner was Mr. Akshay B. Bhatkulkar from Shivaji Science College, Nagpur. His topic of the seminar was nucleophilic substitution reactions.

The Intercollegiate Seminar Competition was grand Success due to support of Respected Dr. M.P. Dhore, Principal Shivaji Science College, Nagpur, Dr. R.U. Khope, Head, Dept. of Chemistry, Shivaji Science College, Nagpur, the organisers Prof J.K. Gunjate and Dr. P.N. Deshmukh all the staff members of Chemistry Department, and non-teaching staff members.

 

Guest Lecture 

A guest lecture was conducted for PG students of chemistry on 28/04/2022. The resource person Dr. N.N. Karde Professor Department of Chemistry was heartily welcomed by Principal Dr. M.P.Dhore. The session was very interactive and ended with an enormous discussion with students. The resource person had an unflinching commitment and ardent passion for teaching. He discussed numerical Stereochemistry and he motivated students to do and improve their carrier opportunities.

Soaking in the spirit of Sharing is caring, Shivaji Science College Nagpur. Organized Joy of Giving activity, where all the staff members of the Chemistry department as well as students participated by donating, Stationery items like books, pens, rubber, scale, and Biscuits to the poor needy Children of the slum area Chunabhatti. The students also visited the house of underprivileged families and donated toys to their kids. Students learned the value of giving and truly celebrated the Joy of sharing. The students were delighted to see the happiness on the faces of the poor Children.

Workshop on “Eco-Friendly Colours” organized by Department of Chemistry Shivaji Science College ,Nagpur.

Department of Chemistry, SSES Amt’s Science College, Congress Nagar ,Nagpur, organized hands on workshop on “Eco-friendly Colours” in collaboration with Arranya Environment organization on 16/03/2022.Mr.Raj Madankar, NGO, Arranya Environment organization was the Chief guest of function & Ms. Anushree Tendolkar,Director of Arranya Environment organization gave information about their organization and narrated about the toxicity of metal salts and their hazardous effect on skin.To create awareness among people to opt for organic colours, as synthetic colours increases environment pollution & causes severe allergic reaction on human being. They prepared variety of colours from various organic natural sources such as flowers of Hibiscus, Rose, Marigold, Beat root ,spinach, turmeric powder etc.Chairmann of programme was Dr.G.R.Avchar.The programme was carriedout successfully under the valuable guidance of Principal ,Prof. M.P.Dhore. Prof R.U.Khope ,Head of Department helped in making the programme a grand success. The convener of the program was Dr.V.R.Kinhikar.All the staff members Dr.P.S.Utale,Dr.R.D.Urkude,Dr.R.A.Deshmukh, ,Dr.P.N.Deshmukh Dr.S.Dhote and non teaching staff members were prominently present on this occasion.

Forensic Science Laboratory visit 07/02/2019

Shivaji Science college ,Department of Chemistry had organized visit to Regional forensic Lab ,Nagpur on 7th feb 2019 The chemistry student of P.G and U.G visited various division such as forensic Ballistic chemistry, biology DNA ,profiling toxicology, cyber forensic etc. Scientist provided the Knowledge about new methology and advance technology used in the forensic science.

Department of Chemistry Organized Guest Lecture on “ HUMAN HEALTH RISK ASSESSMENT OF CHEMICALS” for PG Students of Chemistry and Microbiology. Guest speaker Dr. Sunil Kulkarni, Regulatory Scientist, Canada, delivered a talk on toxicity of chemicals and their assessment in lucid manner.

Students along with faculty members visited to Bazargoan paper and pulp Mills, Nagpur . Students acquainted with process of synthesis for paper pulp, bleaching and drying process.

1st prize in Intercollegiate quiz competition. 29/01/2019

Ms. Azmiya Sadaf and Ms. Swati Sharma students of post graduate department of chemistry Shivaji science college Nagpur bagged 1st prize in the Intercollegiate quiz compition organized by Hislop College, Nagpur to commemorate the 150th year of periodic table in chemistry.

International Ozone Day 16/09/2019

Department of Chemistry has organized OZOWRITE, a Science article writing Competition to mark International Ozone Day. In this competition ,the articles of Student participants have reflected the views articulating the importance, formation, repercussions on lively things in nature were mesmerizing, amazing moreover providing thoughtful notes. Contest was organized on theme OZONE to provide the platform for enhancing the scientific temperament through writing among students.

The chief guest of workshop was Mr. Bhavesh Zala Director, Akar Academy of Arts, Ahmadabad and Miss. Punam Waghela. He demonstrated the students about different techniques of Tie and Dye on clothes.

A guest lecture was conducted for PG students of chemistry on 28/04/2022. The resource person Dr. N.N. Karde Professor Department of Chemistry was heartily welcomed by Principal Dr. M.P.Dhore. The session was very interactive and ended with an enormous discussion with students.

          The resource person had an unflinching commitment and ardent passion for teaching. He discussed numerical Stereochemistry and he motivated students to do and improve their carrier opportunities.
